But did you know the Bible tells us that spiritual sleep can be seriously dangerous ( Matthew 25:5-13 Matthew 25:5-13 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. We know that physical sleep is essential to function effectively. How about you? Are you neglecting your spiritual life, even though you might be getting a lot done physically? Is your life so jam-packed with day-to-day concerns that little or no time is left for the most important parts of life? Are you figuratively pressing the spiritual snooze button over and over again? ![]() Although I would physically wake up every morning, I was still, in effect, spiritually asleep. While I was accomplishing a lot physically, I wasn't doing much spiritually. That's what was happening to me, but there was even more to my story. And each time we press the snooze button one more time before we finally drag ourselves out of bed. We repeat this process nearly every morning. We need coffee or energy drinks to get us going. When we finally do arise we're exhausted. We can't seem to get to bed on time, which in turn makes it hard to get up in the morning. At the end of the day our minds are racing as we think about everything we did and what we still need to do. Our lives are so often filled to the brim with tasks and duties. A lot of other people seem to struggle with it too. Thankfully those days of continually pushing the snooze button are long gone. I'd often press it two, three or even four times. But pushing the button once wasn't enough for me. The alarm clock would buzz and I'd press the snooze button, which stopped and reset the clock to go off again 10 minutes later. A number of years ago I had trouble waking up each morning.
